In the 1990s I decided to try working only with old discarded window glass, as a way of illustrating that an artist can work in a sustainable way. An amazing glass engineer, Bob Kirby, showed me how to mix red clay and crushed container glass into a mixture that fires and almost self-glazes itself.
Because I am interested in affordable housing and materials, I thought I would experiment and make one of my dwelling forms out of the material. The color changed when I raised the temperature of the firing. All types for firings can be seen in these pieces.
This new mixture has great potential as a wall material for real houses!
